Program for Children aged 4-7
This program provides 51 children ages 4-7 a full formal educational program, five days a week in a safe, clean environment through the language of Creole. These children are in school from 7:30am to 12:30pm.

The curriculum includes:
· Literacy acquisition, including reading, writing, speaking, listening
· Numeracy
· Learning to learn strategies
· Social skills to a developmentally appropriate level (self-regulation)
· Hygiene standards appropriate to the location and the opportunities
· Basic science concepts

Learning activities include:
· "Authentic" learning experiences where possible
· Flexible groupings to meet individual needs
· Inquiry method wherever desirable
· Daily writing, reading, mental math, problem solving and questioning opportunities
· up-to-date feedback and formative assessment strategies

In addition, children receive adequate nutrition and medical attention to make learning possible

The Literacy Program for children age 8-14
This program serves cohorts of children who have never attended school and are illiterate. The goal of the Literacy Program is for each child to achieve literacy in Creole and French at least to the 12 year-old level.

Program Schedule:
Five day Schedule
Students arrive at 1:00 p.m. when they are served a hot lunch and receive instruction until 3:00 p.m.

Curriculum:

The Haitian National Curriculum serves as the standard for the Literacy Program with a focus on the essential skills of reading and writing, speaking and listening as well as numeracy These skills include:

Reading
· Concepts of print, alphabetic principle
· Letter identification and formation
· Phonemic awareness
· Phonics
· Comprehension strategies
· Vocabulary development
· Grammar

Writing
· Idea development
· Formation of letters
· Grammar, usage, mechanics, punctuation and spelling
· Word choice

Numeracy
· Numeration to include counting, number formation, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
· Patterns (Algebraic thinking)
· Geometry
· Measurement
· Money
· Problem Solving

Learning activities include:
· Read alouds, mentor texts
· Small group and large group discussions around texts
· Question formation and question response
· Oral and daily independent reading
· Daily writing
· Practical math problem solving around daily Haitian life
· Cooperative structures to promote critical thinking
